A Personal Note

Before jumping into the athletics update, I want to share some personal news. Last week, I received a call from the superintendent of Scott County, Kentucky, offering me the position of High School Athletics Director (grades 9–12).

Rhonda and I have family there—including grandkids—so after much thought, I’ve decided to accept the role.

It’s been an incredible experience being part of the HDS community. My goal has always been to give students the chance to try new things and build confidence—whether through singing, fishing, or playing on the second team. I’m especially proud of our championships and near-championships—but most of all, the way we always honored The Hancock Way: Good Sportsmanship.

Thank you for making me feel so welcome.
I’ll still be running camps and lessons through the end of June and am committed to helping with a smooth transition.

As the flowers bloom and the days grow warmer, we are excited to share some wonderful happenings in our library! This week, our students have been exploring the exciting stages of plant and animal growth. They have enjoyed reading classic springtime tales while also delving into real-world facts and photographs. The enthusiasm from our students has been infectious, and it’s heartwarming to see their creativity bloom.

Students also read Maya's Holi by Thrifty Umrigar, where they learned about Holi, the festival of colors, sharing, and love. They traveled with Maya as she visited her grandparents in India for the spring jubilee, enriching their understanding of diverse cultures.

Lastly, our Spring Book Fair with E. Shaver Bookseller will be held from May 5th-9th!
