January 27th - January 31st

Dear 5th Grade Families,

The Middle School team is excited to invite you to a "Meet the Middle School" event for rising 6th-grade families! This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and students to learn more about the transition to middle school and to meet our dedicated staff.

Event Details:

  • Date: Tuesday, February 11th

  • Time: 6:00 PM

  • Location: Hancock Hall

During the evening, we will provide an overview of the middle school experience, including academic expectations, extracurricular opportunities, and social-emotional support for students.

We look forward to seeing you there and answering any questions you may have as you prepare for this exciting next chapter in your child’s education.

If you have any questions prior to the event, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Please RSVP to this event HERE.

Basketball Updates:

  • Teacher Appreciation Day: Has been moved to Wednesday, January 29th from 5:00 - 6:30 PM.

  • 8th Grade Girls Basketball Recognition: Will be held on January 29th at 8:00 PM, right before the 8:00 PM game.

Basketball Tournament Dates:

  • 5th, 6th, and Development Tournaments: February 5th-10th

  • 7th and 8th Grade Tournaments: February 10th-13th

I’ve requested that the championship games not be scheduled on the same day, or at least have a 90-minute gap between them. This will allow parents with kids in both games to attend. Fingers crossed!

Note: Regular season games will not be made up since everyone will be playing in the basketball tournament.

Baseball Updates:

  • Our coaches will keep parents and kids updated as soon as they have more information.

Physicals:

Please make sure to check with the HDS nurses to ensure your child’s physical is up-to-date before starting spring sports. (912-351-4500, ext. 307 or nurse@hancockdayschool.org)

Thanks,
Coach Bellairs

Let’s go, Eagles! 🎉

  • Our students embraced the winter weather by continuing to play in the snow and collaborate to build The Biggest Snowman Ever, inspired by author Steven Kroll.

  • In a fun classroom activity, students helped a very plump goose outsmart a very hungry fox in Mo Willems' That Is Not A Good Idea!. Their laughter and engagement truly made the learning experience memorable.

Our fourth graders have just finished reading Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading by Tommy Greenwald. We have been engaging in thoughtful discussions around the book’s central themes of friendship, responsibility, and the importance of reading.

Our fifth graders have completed their second reading of All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury. They diligently took directed notes, enhancing their comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Lastly, as we honored the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., our students have been reading and exploring Dr. King's powerful message of love, respect, and hope.

We will have more Art updates next week upon finishing our latest projects.
