6th-grade Volleyball:

The HDS girls' 6th-grade volleyball team had a great season on (2nd place!) and off the court this year. During the regular season, with the help of the Nedriga family, the team raised over  $1,100 to aid flood and storm victims in western North Carolina. Thanks to their efforts, Hancock is writing a check to Samaritans Purse, which helps with food, shelter, and repairs in the area. Special thanks to all those who contributed to this important cause!

Spring Sports

Signup sheets for spring sports will be shared with students before winter break. Students interested in playing a spring sport should place their names on the list when they begin circulating. Available spring sports are:

  • Baseball–(please see Coach Carucci) They have had some preliminary meetings already

  • Track

  • Golf, and

  • Soccer

We have been quite busy in Art this week learning and creating. We have been talking about mixing color through making color painting palettes, illustrating our one-of-a-kind treasure maps through only using primary colors, learning about and depicting our own colorful cargo ships with tissue paper, designing our own racing chariots inspired by Ancient Rome and creating mythological inspired ‘block’ prints in reference to the printing press during the Renaissance. So, I hope they get a chance to relax over break, because when we come back we will be just as busy creating wonderful decorations in preparation for the Holiday Program in December. I also wanted to give a big ‘Thank You!’ to Randall Sizemore, an HDS parent who graciously donated many colorful aprons to our classroom. The children have been loving wearing them and I’m sure you will too (less messy clothes in the future). Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!

This is an exciting time of year when we fall back into existing routines or develop new ones. As your family navigates going back to school, remember that it’s just as important to build in downtime into your schedule. Allow you and your student to have the time to reflect and rejuvenate!
