April and May are super busy months with many field trips and exciting events in the classrooms! Please be sure to keep up with your child’s classroom newsletter and nightly agenda/folder.

This week marks the beginning of April. Our virtue of the month is Acceptance, understanding that we are all unique. As I have spoken with the different grade levels, I’ve remained focused on the idea that each one of these virtues is part of being a good friend and good community member. I read the book AAAlligatorby Judith Henderson. It’s a sweet and comical story who saves an alligator from a twisty vine. They become friends and the boy convinces the town to befriend the alligator as well, despite the Mayor’s proclamation “No Alligators.” I won’t tell the whole story in the event that you’d like to read it on your own! It was a fun way to share an example of how accepting others, despite their differences, can lead to meaningful and lasting relationships.

Because the time will fly by, I also discussed the virtue for next month, Appreciation. All students knew what that was right off the bat. I focused on the idea of being grateful and appreciative of the people who have helped them learn and grow this school year. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8 - May 12.

There are always great things happening at HDS. This week was short and much of my time was spent reading out loud with students, finalizing ERB business, and engaging with students in the hallways and classrooms! While I didn’t have the opportunity to take pictures, I know many classroom teachers/grade levels are able to post photos of special events and fun lessons. Our social media accounts will often post fun photos as well.
