Conferences and Report Cards

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up next week. I hope that you have had the opportunity to schedule a time to meet with your child’s classroom teacher. At the end of the second trimester, your child will have made measurable progress in both academic and social-emotional areas. Teachers love the opportunity to share the successes of your child and can help provide clarity and insight into the remainder of the school year.

While your parent teacher conference is a great time to hear about your child, it is also an opportunity for you to ask questions! To help you prepare to make the best use of your time,  here is a link to an article with tips for parents on how to get ready for your conference.

If you are concerned or caught off guard by a few 2s or Ns on your child’s report card, no need to worry! Not only have expectations increased since the fall, but often times when a child receives a “Needs Improvement,” it simply refers to a skill that is still in the developing stage. It identifies an area where your child might need to place some intentional effort and he or she would benefit from extra support both at home and at school.

We value our strong relationships with our families. Parent teacher conferences are one of our ways to help sustain and strengthen our partnership with you in your child’s education. If you haven’t had the opportunity to schedule a parent teacher conference, I highly encourage you to do so!

5th Grade wrote historic newspapers based on their reading of The Shakespeare Stealer.

Kindergarten students at Library with Mrs. Hill camping with President Roosevelt.

We are very busy in the Library.  Kindergarten students went camping with Theodore Roosevelt on Thursday.  We read The Camping Trip That Saved America about why Roosevelt started the National Parks of America.  They had so much fun!  Third Graders made constellations for the Underground Railroad.  Last week we read Before She was Harriet and The Drinking Gourd , as we continued our study of African Americans.  Fourth Graders are doing a great job finding information on their presidents in the encyclopedias and books.  I am looking forward to the Wax Museum.  Fifth Graders are finishing up their Dr. Seuss presentations.  Look for pictures of their debut as teachers next week.  Next week is all about Dr. Seuss in the Library!!
