January 16th - January 20th

This week has been filled with lots of energy and enthusiasm! We started off our week with the anticipation of the big UGA vs. TCU game. Teachers and children donned their red and black or purple and green to support their favored team. While our campus mainly gave off the UGA vibes, we had a few brave souls who donned the opposing team’s colors. I’m not much of a football fan, but was definitely drawn into the excitement! While some of us were a little tired on Tuesday, the thrill of the big win made up for it. GO DAWGS!

As I have been meeting briefly with faculty members this month, there has been one constant theme - a sense of happiness, fulfillment, and appreciation. HDS has a wonderful community of students, teachers, and families who make this a wonderful place to be. The dedication and love our teachers have for their students are evident as I walk through the halls and step into the classrooms.

This is the time of year the curriculum seems to take a shift. I would always tell my students that the next grade level was now in sight, so things were going to pick up. That shift looks a little different in each grade level, be it a higher level of independence expected in our little ones to longer, more complicated reading passages for our older students. In all my years in the classroom, January seemed to also be the time when things “clicked” for my students and these challenges weren’t even noticed! I have been both pleased and impressed to see our students this past week level up with ease and enthusiasm!
