November 28th - December 2nd

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches our students have engaged in many learning activities that encouraged reflection on gratitude. Our Kindergarten students also published some very helpful cookbooks with hints on how to bake the best Thanksgiving turkey. I am so thankful to have my own copies!

While I feel it is important to practice gratitude daily, Thanksgiving is always a good time of year to reflect upon the many things in our lives that bring us joy, peace, and content.

This Thanksgiving, I have an abundance of things to be grateful for, one of those being the amazing Hancock Day School community. I appreciate our hardworking, enthusiastic students, our dedicated, caring teachers, and supportive families.

I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Library News

Please encourage your child to return books every week.  I sent home notices for books that were more than 10 days overdue.  Thanks in advance for your help.  This month we are reading nonfiction books in the library.  In Pre K we are reading about Thanksgiving. In Kindergarten we are reading about the First Americans and creating wampum bracelets..  In 1st grade students loved sailing their Mayflowers across the Atlantic Ocean.   In 2nd grade we made tornados.   Third graders continue to read Wayside School.  They love this book..  Fourth graders used the reading strategy of recalling details and retold the story of Jumanji.    Finally, in fifth grade we will look at the cause of World War I in conjunction with Veterans Day.  We are scanning and skimming the information and writing it in our own words.  Reading is so much FUN!  When your child reads fiction or nonfiction for pleasure, they learn so much!!!
