Never Stop Learning
In the coming weeks you’ll receive information about summer math and reading assignments for your children. Trust me, we all understand the need to decompress and enjoy the slower pace of summer. These assignments are designed to help students keep their skills sharp without being overly taxing. We strive to provide a degree of choice and also present opportunities for enrichment for families who may want a little extra practice.
Our faculty and staff also believe in the importance of being lifelong learners, and with that in mind, many of our teachers will also be engaged in professional development over the summer months. Casey Welsh, an Orton Gillingham Fellow, will be training several of our teachers this summer on the OG phonics-based approach to teaching phonics and literacy. Additionally, several of our teachers will be pursuing additional math training with Beth Curran, one of the authors of the Dimensions math series. Some teachers also have plans to pursue their Google Certification for level 1 or 2.
It is my hope that everyone has a chance to relax and enjoy some new opportunities this summer, and I also feel thankful that HDS is full of so many hardworking professionals who go above and beyond to create the best learning opportunities for our children! Stay tuned for those summer math and reading assignments in the weeks ahead!
Students in Action
Our newest Eagle was born this week as Alex Campbell and her husband welcomed their new baby boy, Fields! On campus we distributed yearbooks, enjoyed the sunshine, and squeezed in a few final lessons as our year winds down. Our second graders also ventured off campus to the Savannah Bee Company for a visit!
