Wear Your Holiday Best on Monday!
Don’t forget that students will be recording their performance for the holiday program on Monday. Students should arrive at school in dressy holiday attire.
The Holidays at Hancock
Festive classrooms and bulletin boards are just the beginning! Our teachers and students love this time of year as we learn about the holidays and enjoy special traditions together.
Hanukkah officially began on Thursday night, and we are looking forward to a virtual visit from Rabbi Haas from Mickve Israel to learn about the history and meaning of Hanukkah. He is pre recording a video for our students that he will be sharing early next week.
Rehearsals for our holiday program are in full swing. You can expect this year’s program to look and feel different, but our students are continuing to practice special holiday songs. In order to adhere to our COVID-19 protocol, the virtual program will include movement and instrumental components in place of children singing. We will share a link for viewing this virtual program on Friday, December 18th.
Classroom holiday parties will take place on either the 17th or 18th. Please review specific details in the newsletter for your child’s grade level/class.
Don’t forget that Friday, December 18th is an early dismissal day with no extended care. Green gate (grades preK-2) will dismiss at 11:45. Gold gate (grades 3-5) will dismiss at 12:00. White gate (grades 6-8) will dismiss at 12:15.
Parents on Campus
We love our supportive parent community and know that your children enjoy seeing you on campus; however, as we continue to prioritize student and faculty health, we are not able to host parent visitors on campus. Our Health and Education Advisory Committee will continue to consider the number of COVID-19 cases in our area, and we will update you should we have the ability to change our guidelines in this area.
Computer Science Education Week
This week in the computer lab students in grades kindergarten - five participated in the Hour of Code - a global movement in which students celebrate computer science education by spending an hour coding. From our kindergarteners using beebots to our fourth and fifth graders creating their own virtual dance party, our students had fun while honing their problem solving skills, thinking logically, and expanding their creativity.
Did You Know…
This week we kicked off our Excellence Fund campaign! We are asking all of our community members to consider how they can support HDS as we strive to improve our facilities and resources so that our students have the best possible experience. We believe that there is no better investment than your child’s education, and we thank you in advance for your generosity.
