Academic Support
Making mistakes, and learning from them, is an important part of the educational process at HDS. While students are learning remotely, we know that it can be tempting to intervene and help them fix their mistakes. Though well intentioned, these efforts can cheat students out of the opportunity to find their own voice, be their own advocate, and achieve academic self reliance. It is also very difficult for our faculty to know when students are struggling with a concept if the work they submit demonstrates mastery. While students may need some parental guidance with assignments, if your child is struggling with a concept, please be sure to let his/her teacher know so that we can work together.
Assessments are designed so that teachers can gauge students’ level of understanding, so it’s important that students complete these independently.
Physically Distanced but Socially Connected
“We get so wrapped up in numbers in our society. The most important thing is that we are able to be one-to-one, you and I with each other at the moment. If we can be present to the moment with the person that we happen to be with, that’s what’s important.” - Fred Rogers
We miss seeing our students in person daily and seek to maintain a human connection as much as possible. We know that just being present for our students and their families, especially in uncertain times, is critical. Please know that while you cannot see us on campus each day, we’re still here. Email is the best way to reach any of us, and while you are always welcome to send a message to your child’s teachers, also feel free to reach out to our counselor, Allison Maher, our Learning Coach, Tricia Guggenheim, or me. Our email addresses our listed below.
